Gold Course Update - October 3, 2025
This October, Stonebriar Country
Club is proud to honor Breast Cancer Awareness Month. We have raised pink logo
flags across both courses as a reminder of the importance of early detection.
Regular screenings can find cancer before symptoms appear, and early detection
is believed to save thousands of lives each year. Together, we stand in
support, awareness, and hope.
Overseed – Par 3 Tees and
Driving Range Tee
All Par 3 Tees and the Driving
Range Tee have been overseeded with perennial ryegrass. This provides improved
playing surfaces over the winter months when the bermudagrass goes dormant.
Ryegrass is a cool season grass that will stay green throughout the colder
months and allow divot recovery. All overseeded areas were verticut, mowed, and
seeded. These tees will be kept at a moisture level adequate for seed
germination. Once the ryegrass is established, the mowing heights will be
lowered. Here is a rundown of the overseed process:
Tee is verticut, mowed, and the clippings are removed.
Seed is dropped in three different directions to avoid any skips or misses.
This tee was seeded 10 days ago, and the ryegrass is growing. As the
ryegrass matures, the tillering will increase the density of the turf.
Fall Pre-Emergent Application
The GCM Team has completed the
fall pre-emergent application on both golf courses. We drop spread a granular
pre-emergent around tees and greens and spray a liquid product on the fairways
and roughs. This reduces the chances of any product being applied to any
non-target areas.
Turf Type Tall Fescue
Seeding
We are in the process of seeding
fescues into areas where bermudagrass is difficult to manage during the cooler
months, which are mainly shady areas under trees. To prepare for seeding, we
mow these areas low to allow the fescue to make contact with the soil. Each
area was marked with turf paint and marking flags so the applicator could
easily see the areas to seed. The marking flags were also used as a visual aid
for our pre-emergent applications. Obviously, we do not want the pre-emergent
on the areas that were seeded. You will see the fescue growing over the next
couple of weeks and enjoy the deep green color all winter and spring. These tall
fescue areas will be mowed at 3”. This allows the cool season grass to mature,
thicken, and prepare for the Texas heat next summer.
