Fazio Fairways The Fazio fairways continue to improve. Our recovery program will continue as long as we see results. Our program combines granular fertilizer, liquid fertilizer, and bio-stimulants to encourage the bermuda growth. We have utilized growth regulators which promote lateral growth versus vertical growth. All fairways, tees, approaches, and aprons were aerified and verticut last week during the Fazio closure. These cultural practices will expedite the recovery process and create healthier soil for optimum growth. TifTuff sod is currently being installed on Fazio 11 fairway in areas where full recovery is unlikely. We are also preparing areas on Fazio 13 for sod next week. We should be done with Fazio 11 and 13 fairways next week, weather permitting. Rain chances look promising for Sunday and Monday.
Driving Range Tee The range tee has been fraze mowed in preparation for re-grassing. Fraze mowing removes the thatch and organic matter that builds up over time. We were more aggressive with our depths, which helped level the tee. Our range tee gets a lot of usage, and over time, the divots create a very uneven surface. Once the tee is grassed, we will institute a heavy topdressing program to alleviate the issue moving forward. The re-grassing will occur on Monday, July 22 (weather permitting). We will sod the back edge of the tee with TifTuff going in about 16 feet and sprig the remainder of the tee. Sprigging is a method of establishing bermudagrass by removing stems, or sprigs, from mature bermudagrass and replanting. Establishment can take 6-8 weeks, depending on weather conditions.
Fazio Greens Aerification Recovery All greens, tees, fairways, approaches, and aprons were aerified last week. The team did a terrific job completing all areas even though we were delayed one day due to intermittent rain. The greens are recovering nicely. Aerification weeks are very labor intensive and exhausting, however, the benefits are better playing surfaces in the future.
Dye Course Aerification The Dye Course will be closed Monday, July 22 through Thursday, July 25 for aerification. |
